lyrics
At night the smoke seeps in, felt but unseen like my lungs are allergic to what I breathe. And hands beat back a swelling body of heat, but I can’t stand to think of distant burning things. I’ve been feeling weak, trying to breathe and speak through hollow teeth. Lament the rancid stink riding on the breeze, but do nothing. Another night singing to the ashtray. A shaky voice recounting my hypocrisies. Nodding off in an empty room. Mired in the blues under a red full moon. It’s nights like these, when I don’t know how to be despite the pain I’ve been spared by geography, figures encroach, phantom-formed and asking if this is empathy or just misplaced naiveté. 'Cause nothing moves inside the lines of a poem, and what good is metaphor to a burning home? I’ve been feeling weak, trying to ease this sense of stagnancy. A misspent life, too much time spent shaping lines. Another night forcing myself to sing. Another night searching for something to still believe. Feigning sleep under a blood red moon. Mired in the blues
with nothing else to do.
